Everyone knows that experiencing a slow computer can be one of the most annoying and aggravating things you can experience. No matter if it is at work or at home, sitting there waiting for your computer to simply boot up or shut down, not to mention perform the simple tasks you once took for granted when the system was brand new and a ran at lightning speed. Believe it or not, there are several ways you can stop a computer running slow without calling out a tech guy.
First, free up room on your computer. This can be done in several ways from uninstalling old programs you no longer use to backing up files such as movies, music, pictures and other personally important files on some form of backup including everything from burning it onto a CD or DVD disk, moving the files to a USB drive or external hard drive. If your computer has more than one hard drive in it you can simply move it from your main drive to your secondary one.
Both uninstalling old programs and moving files off your hard drive not only free up valuable hard drive space making it easier for your computer to find the files that are requested, but more than likely some of those old programs had features that were being started every time you restored your computer using up precious memory that you never even knew about and stop your computer running slow.
Once the cleanup has been performed now it’s time to go through and organize all the files on your computer. This can be done by performing a hard drive defragmentation. What this does is takes all the files on your computers hard drive and makes sure they are all organized and placed next to each other. Because through normal use as well as installing and uninstalling programs, bits and pieces of files end up scattered all over the place. This can make looking for requested information very difficult for your computer to do.
Now, let’s take a moment and talk about anti-virus, spyware and adware protection. We all know that these things can cause you all different problems on your computer that run the spectrum of simply being annoyinging pop up to downright dangerous with the ability to steal your personal information and open up your computer to future attacks. A good anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-adware program should keep you well protected.
Lastly, your computer registry more than likely needs to be completely looked at and several repairs made to it. The registry in a computer tells your system the exact location of every files you have on your hard drive. The system can easily become corrupted even by normal, everyday use. This can lead to your system slowing down over time to the point where you begin to experience unexplainable errors and your system starting to crash.
While repairs to your computer registry should never be attempted manually, there are many well-built programs available that will scan your computer registry and perform the necessary repairs all with the click of a few buttons and this will stop a computer running slow.
